I am so proud to say that the best decision I ever made next to marrying my Husband, Michael, is to take Karate at NicKy's Pro Karate. I absolutely love it and recommend the DoJo to everyone. I have a lot to learn but Master Derek and Master Geo are awesome and patient. Thank you, Jacqueline

Some of my experiences I had in Karate are: I had a difficult times, like when I lost my belt, lost my tips, got hurt….but, that didn’t stop me. Nothing could.  Sometimes I wanted to quit but I didn’t.  I’m glad I didn’t quit because now I am something special.  I have good discipline and I am respectful.  Everything I just spoke about was from Karate and there is six people in this world I can thank.  That is Master Nicky, Mr. Geo, Mr. Derrick and 2 very important people who inspired me is my parents and my best friend Mark.

My son, Michael, age 10, recently earned his black belt at Nicky's Pro Karate. He has trained since he was four years old. Without question, the black belt test and ceremony was one of the proudest experiences of my life. But even more important are the many life's lessons Michael learned along the way toward his lofty goal. They will be a source of great strength to him as he faces life's many challenges in the future. Wow, what a ride. Thanks, Master Nicky, Master Derrick, and Mr. Geo. You guys are the greatest!

“After six years at NPK, I’ve learned that I can achieve anything in life, and have developed a strong work ethic that can be applied to almost everything. Karate has helped me keep a positive attitude, lead by example, develop a positive self image, stay in good physical shape, be confident, responsible, and respectful and maintain excellent grades by developing my mental and physical health. For the past several months I have been trying to base my life on the Black Belt Oath…”

What I have learned at Nicky’s Pro Karate
By Jake Picker

I started at Nicky’s Pro Karate when I was five years old. My parents felt that I lacked discipline and respect. They wanted to “straighten me out”. Nicky’s Pro Karate changed my life, making me into the disciplined and respectful person that I am today. Mixed martial arts is the type of karate practiced at Nicky’s Pro Karate. Mixed martial arts is a full contact sport in which a wide variety of fighting techniques are used including striking and grappling. But, karate is not just kicking and punching. It is so much more. Nicky’s Pro Karate emphasizes life skills such as discipline, confidence, persistence, responsibility, and respect as well as physical martial arts skills. Along with the physical aspects of karate, we work with the achievement of self-discipline, self-respect, self-confidence and the strong positive “I can do it” attitude. Respect is the martial arts code of conduct. I have learned to respect myself, respect others, respect my culture, and the cultures of others. What I learn at Nicky’s Pro Karate crosses over to all areas of my life such as at school and home. I learned discipline by taking responsibility for my homework being done, making sure my papers are in my backpack, and making sure my sparring bag is ready to go. I put my clothes in the hamper and put my dish is the sink after dinner without being told by my parents. I have learned that respect for others leads to a respect for myself.

Being a karate student has increased my fitness level in both body and mind. I am a stronger and more confident person. In addition to being a better person, I know that I can defend myself if necessary. In martial arts we try to be kind and smart, and to value peace, but it is important for me to be able to defend myself or my friends and family if a situation arises.

Being a karate student has increased my self-esteem. I feel stronger about myself and the things that I know. Because of my improved self-discipline, I am a better student. I have more confidence speaking up in class and now serve on the student council.

My training at Nicky’s Pro Karate has had a positive impact on my life at both home and school. Training for the Black Belt test is a true test of what I have learned. I know that I will carry the lessons learned from Nicky’s Pro Karate with me throughout my life.
